Condolence & Memory Journal

As time approaches nine months since Pamela passed from this earth, about the same time it took for her to arrive on this earth, I offer these words of thanks to my five Smitherman Grandchildren and my Son-in-law Christopher, for the love and devotion shown to her while she was in your lives. Pam would be happy remembering whenever you demonstrated her famous teaching that "Love is a Verb." May you all continue to do so in your future.

To the Smitherman relatives and extended Smitherman Family, I say a special "Mahalo" which is "Thank You!" in Hawaiian for your support and service providing whatever and whenever needs were made known. You loved Pamela through action.

To ALL those friends, acquaintances, neighbors and co-workers who participated in every way to assist with Pamela's care, both during and after her illness, I extend my sincerest gratitude! You truly lived through action the phrase "If there is anything I can do..." and did not wait to deliver love as dinner, errands, supplies, visits, etc.

This note is to forever remind us, Pamela's Family, how we were showered with blessings because "Love is a VERB."

Pamela, we continually miss your presence and light in our world. You are forever remembered in love. Mom

So sad to learn of her passing today on WLW listening to Christopher talking to Bill Cunningham. As a widow myself, your words and thoughts were truly spoken from your heart, from the love you have ...and always will have, for Pamela. You will never stop loving her. You will always feel married to her, because you are in your heart and mind. You are NORMAL!!! Much love to all of your family!!! Sincerely, Lora M. Walker, your unknown friend who cares, from Wilmington Ohio,

I first met Pam immediately after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. I arranged for a surgery within days, with the hope that removal of the instigating source for her antibodies affecting her movement would help improve her quality of life and treat the cancer. Alas, the damage had been done and her immune system which tried valiantly to protect her, turned on her in a rare and unexpected fashion.

Pamela's grace in dealing with her fate, her strong faith, and her family are an inspiration to us all. She remains an inspiration to me as I go forward.

I got to know Pamela through being swim team moms. She was generous and kind, no nonsense and wryly funny. When I took over her position as volunteer coordinator, she sat me down in October to teach me the tasks for the next May. She passed down an incredible amount of knowledge and also supported me as I tried to do right by her. She was a true teacher through and through. Her commitment to her kids' activities was legendary. Her friendship, kindness, thoughtfulness and unique way of being in the world will be missed.

Pamela Michele, my first born, answer to prayer for a petite and feminine daughter. You blessed my life with your smile, your love, your joy. You became a doting sister to Tracy Irene, teaching her to swim, braid hair and to be fearless in all things. I will remember how you shared my love of sewing and surpassed my skills by age 14. You became an Eagle with outstretched arms covering your five arrows in a quiver full...your children. You lived your love for Jesus by honoring your marriage vows with devoted husband, Christopher and showing us how to Trust God's Sovereignty by Faith to your final breath. The light of your presence will be vividly missed by your loved ones and friends. I was privileged to be your Mom!

I only met Pamela after she became ill, but even in sickness, her strength, faith and love for her family came through. I was privileged to be able to tell her story with Sharon Coolidge for the Cincinnati Enquirer. The love everyone felt for her came through in the many photographs I took. Rest in peace Pamela. You will never be forgotten.

Pam was a strong and fierce mother. We shared talks as swim moms and fellow CPS educators. I admired how she was focused and warm in how she guided and nurtured her children. Her leadership and giving heart will be missed. Prayers and grace to her family and friends.

I met Pam at CLinton Hills Swim Club. She was one of the strong women running our swim team volunteers. Pam trained me as a Swim Team Volunteer. I was in awe of her organization and we worked well together. I learned so much from her leadership and calm voice that gained respect and quiet at clerk of course. I admired her strict and gentle parenting style and her ability to manage a large family. I had the priveledge to get to know her family even better while she was Ill and enjoyed our visits. I will miss you Pam but the lessons you taught me will stay forever.

Christopher, my heart has been aching for you and your children. I expect Dan messaged you and we'll be unable to honor Pamela at the services tomorrow, but our thoughts and prayers will be with you. All of you have fought so very bravely and have been an example for us all about honoring our wedding vows and dying with dignity. I so hope that despite your public position that you will take the time to recover from this enormous loss in whatever way you need. May God bless all of you now and as you find a new way to be a family.

I grew up with Pam, she was one of the smartest kids in a class of over a thousand. Ill always think of her wearing her signature pigtails, saying something totally brilliant, unique and often hilarious despite her generally serious outward persona. We all loved her. I lost track of her in college days but was so happy to hear that shed become a teacher. Passing on everything she had to the next generation with wit and acumen unparalleled Im certain. It felt like a perfect match. I am heartbroken for her family. Sending love and condolences.

Dear Pam,
I am so sad to hear your passing! I hope you could hear me in Heaven. As a neighbor, friend and a NAM parent, you dont know how you touched me and my life as a mom and community member. I started knowing you back then when Christopher came to my house one night to support the Chinese Chamber I co-founded at that time as a City Council Member. I want to let you know that your leadership, your strength and more unforgettably your smile will always inspire me in the future. RIP and you deserve it!

I was so sad to hear of Pam's passing. I worked for Albert years ago and had the pleasure of meeting Pam when I was helping Chris campaign on Election Day. She was very kind and helpful. The think I noticed most was her smile. She was always smiling. Chris, please know I will have you and your family in my prayers.

Pamela is the example of what all great mothers, teachers and what a friend is. The world has tears when she passed and a giant hole in it's heart. RIP and God Speed Pamela. You are dearly missed each minute of every day.

Our condolences to you and your family. I did not know your wife personally, but I did meet you once walking down the street in Cincinnati. I asked to take a picture with you and you were more than willing to do so. Much love and respect for you and your family.

Pam was "mom goals" in human form. When we were starting out as a family new to swim team at Clinton Hills, I remember literally standing in awe of her. She had a very rare combination of leadership and grace, of poise and power. (It's no coincidence you can see these same traits in her children.) Through it all, the love she had for her family really just dripped off of her. You could see it. It was something real and visible. Pam will sorely be missed by all who loved her and all who looked up to her.

Much love to all who grieve her loss and celebrate her life.

Just saw this first thing this morning. I've know Pam since grade school at Noble Elementary, in Cleveland Heights. She was always so sweet and we shared a love of reading. My Dear Niece, Pamela
I have so many precious memories of you! I Took you to get your ears pierced and your first pair of earrings when you came to visit me in California. You were such a precious little girl then.
I remember that I was the first family member to hold Christopher when I was in Cleveland.
I remember taking you to the ocean and telling you to hit that water back because it rolled over your little feet.
I am so sad that you are gone but I am so happy that you are now in Heaven and in the loving arms of Jesus.

Watch over your family and let them know that you will always be with them in their hearts. No more pain, only happiness in Heaven with Jesus.
